Institute presentation

Description of organisation

INSERM unit U669 has concentrated its research work on three lines of research: 1) research methodology in psychiatry; 2) evaluation of practices and care delivery in psychiatry; 3) harmful and self-harming behaviours (impulsivity, suicide, behavioural disorders, addictions, eating disorders, borderline personality, etc). The methodology was originally based on epidemiology. The present trend is to diversify, both in the direction of human sciences and in the direction of neuroscience.

Unit 669 has also formed an association with GRIP (Groupe de Recherche sur l'Inadaptation Psychosociale chez l'enfant, Montreal, headed by R. Tremblay) to form an international entity. GRIP is known worldwide for its numerous cohorts of children followed for durations of more than 20 years.

Previous experience

INSERM unit U669 has published 350 papers indexed in pubmed in the last 4 years, with 4 papers in the Archives of General Psychiatry. 4 clinical trials on psychological interventions are presently ongoing (prevention of suicide attempts in borderline disorders, dependence to cannabis, prevention of conduct disorders, prevention of relapse in sexual abusers). Regular epidemiological studies (n=50000) are conducted each 4 years, dealing especially with substance use and abuse in adolescents.
